LAE Praised by Schools Minister

On 2 September, LAE was delighted to welcome Schools Minister, Nick Gibb MP. Mr Gibb met a number of staff and sixth formers, and even found time to don a lab coat and goggles to join a Y13 Chemistry lesson. Mr Gibb congratulated LAE sixth formers on their summer 2015 A level results, saying “[LAE] sent 105 pupils out of 250 to Russell Group universities with A level results 72% A* - B. This is precisely what we wanted the free school programme to achieve; high quality teaching supported by world famous public schools. Congratulations to everybody in the school for what’s been achieved”. Mr Gibb told the Newham Recorder LAE is “an example of what we hoped in our wildest dreams would come up of the free school movement. I’d heard a lot about it and I know it’s been very successful. It’s already sent over 200 people to Russell Group universities. The autonomy is a key driver. It gives young people opportunities that weren’t there before”.
